This device is used to hold bacteria growing coupons while the lab assistant cleans them. The wells are sized for 0.5 inch bacteria coupons. The coupon fits tightly within the wells for cleaning, but can be easily removed when the top plate is separated from the bottom plate.

Each plate was designed solely using FreeCAD. The design is relatively simple and can be printed on most 3D printers with ease.

This is a custom designed piece of lab equipment for a special purpose. There are not other coupon holders that remove the need for the user to hold each individual coupon for cleaning. On top of that, this allows four coupons to be cleaned simultaneously. A cost savings to 3D print this component as opposed to having it custom designed is estimated to be $50. Due to the contamination via bacteria in the lab, a custom piece would have to be sterilzed after every use whereas these holders can be printed for approximately $0.40 and can be disposed after use.
