Hand Anatomy 3D Print Kit
This is an original 3-D modeling construct of the bony anatomy of the hand and wrist. The 3-D model contains the 1st-5th metacarpal bones and the gross configuration of the carpal bones.
This original model was created using Blender 2.71 and print-regions were analyzed using SolidWorks e-drawings. The .stl model was templated roughly from Model ID 3DPX-000391 found here.
Features of this model
Each of the carpal bones is hollow. The walls of the mesh are of roughly uniform thickness. Each of the metacarpal bones has a central core and surrounding thickness of the bone which is of approximately uniform thickness circumferentially forming the suggested hollow marrow-space within the a flanking mass of the compact bone.
For each of the metatarsal bones, the regions near bony ends were made solid by omission of the central marrow cavity near the bony ends. This was an anatomical change accomodating the absence of a hollow marrow cavity in the epiphysis of the represented bones en-vivo.
