3DPX at the DC Mini Maker Faire

Darrell Hurt demonstrates our 3D prints

Yesterday we hosted a booth at the DC Mini Maker Faire, sponsored by Maker Faire in partnership with the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellows. The event kicked off a series of events surrounding 3D printing and leading up to the White House Maker Faire on June 18th.

Over 3,000 visitors were in attendance, spanning all ages. The government was well represented across a number of Federal agencies. White House staff visited booths throughout the Yards Park and Ideaspace, and even tried out the "quadcopters and flying things" exhibit. Volunteers joined from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health (that's us!), the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, State, and Treasury, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Other government participants included the Departments of Commerce, Education, Health and Human Services, Interior, and Labor, along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), General Services Administration (GSA), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Representatives from the Congressional Maker Caucus and the District of Columbia Mayor's Office were also present for the event.

A very special thanks to Meredith Lee, Christie Canaria, the AAAS fellows, and the rest of the DC Mini Maker Faire team for all their help in organizing and staffing our booth. Extra thanks for featuring us on your event page blog!
